A photothermal-response oxygen release platform based on a hydrogel for accelerating wound healing

Abstract: During wound healing, oxygen availability and the anti-inflammatory microenvironment play an important role in the formation of new tissue. However, providing continuous and controllable oxygen around the injured tissue while inhibiting inflammation and realizing the synergistic effect of oxygen supply and anti-inflammation is still a major problem affecting the regeneration and repair of wound tissue. Inspired by skin wound pathology and the inflammatory microenvironment, a photothermal response-assisted stra… Show more

“…developed a polydopamine‐hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel loading lauric acid/indocyanine green‐coated CaO 2 and MnO 2 composite nanoparticles (CaO 2 ‐ICG@LA@MnO 2 ). [ 42 ] The CaO 2 ‐ICG@LA@MnO 2 nanoparticles prevented the direct exposure of CaO 2 to H 2 O. The O 2 generation of CaO 2 ‐ICG@LA was slightly lower than that of pure CaO 2 nanoparticles, while CaO 2 ‐ICG@LA@MnO 2 exhibited faster release of O 2 due to CAT‐like activity of MnO 2 .…”

“…Besides the ones mentioned above, one of the most recent and effective biomaterials used for oxygen deficiency is peroxide-based hydrogels due to their ability to generate oxygen via chemical reaction. [72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80] CaO 2 , Na 2 CO 3 , and H 2 O 2 are the ones most commonly used. H 2 O 2 is one of the reliable molecules used in wound healing applications with oxygen generation, as it releases only oxygen and water into the medium when dissolved.…”

“…[3][4][5] Moreover, regulating the heat dose to mild levels has been shown to significantly enhance wound healing. [6,7] Furthermore, neuromodulation via photothermal heating was recently proposed as a therapeutic strategy to prevent ventricular arrythmias and to treat depression. [8,9] While these examples highlight the versatility of the technology, a comprehensive understanding of cell response to heat is lacking.…”
