A polystyrene/WO3 opal composite monolayer film as a building block for the fabrication of 3D WO3 inverse opal films

Abstract: Large area Polystyrene/WO3 opal composite monolayers were successfully fabricated via a modified “dynamic-hard-template” infiltration strategy, and then used as building block for the synthesis of 3D WO3 inverse opal films in a bottom-up approach.

“…Notably, the 3D WO 3 IOPCs films can be prepared through the assembly of PS/WO 3 composite monolayers by the ‘dynamic hard‐template’. [ 21 ] Furthermore, the 3D IOPCs film of hetero‐structural TiO 2 (bottom layer)/WO 3 (top layer) is successfully synthesized based on the above method. [ 22 ]…”

“…Organic electrochromic materials are rarely constructed into PCs for smart windows due to poor structural controllability and chemical stability [92]. Among inorganic electrochromic materials, Ni [93,94], Ir [95] and Co [96] oxides of anode material and W [97][98][99][100][101], V [102] and Ti [103][104][105] oxides of cathode material have been used to construct smart windows based on PCs. WO 3 has been widely used due to its excellent electrochromic performance.…”

“…3b). Li et al [98] used a dynamic hard template method to prepare a single-layer WO 3 film, and double-layer and triplelayer WO 3 films were obtained by repeating this strategy, which enable the combination of layers with different pore sizes to be achieved (Fig. 4).…”

“…In addition, its large specic surface area also increases the active area and improves charge transfer kinetics during redox reactions. [35][36][37][38][39][40][41] Since the high visible transparency is one of the fundamental properties of glass window, it is necessary to shi the radiation modulation to the IR (or NIR) range. On the other hand, the IR (or NIR) modulation is also found to be more effective for the heat management in the eld of smart window, as nearly 50% of solar energy comes from IR radiation.…”
