A Possibility for Construction of an Iodine Cleaning System Based on Doping for π-Conjugated Polymers

Abstract: An iodine accumulation method using polyaniline (PANI) and a textile composite is proposed. PANI/pulp paper sheets prepared by a paper making technique are suitable for iodine adsorption, because of good processability. The PANI-based paper sheets can be applied for iodine cleanup as air filters, water filters, and floorcloth. This concept may lead to a development of an iodine cleaning machine or iodine shield cloth based on -conjugated polymer composites. In-situ vapor phase doping of iodine, observation of… Show more

“…Interestingly, the pres ence of iodine in the polymer enhanced the EPR signal by almost fivefold. This ESR signal enhancement was also observed by Goto [232] when doping a composite made of EBPANi and pulp paper with iodine vapor. Based on FTIR, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and 13 C NMR analyses, the structure of I 2 EBPANi was proposed as shown in Figure 13.…”

“…After doping, a radical concentration slowly increased due to the progress of the doping with iodine, confirming that polarons as radical cations were produced in the main chain of the PANI. This result confirms the iodine doping process of Mt/PANI [17].…”

“…Polymers can be transformed to pose conductivity by allowing the free transfer of electrons between bonds to form anions. Anions and cations react as charge transfer carriers under the influence of the electrical field [ 55 ]. Polymer film is typically non-conductive, but the doping process is effective in enhancing its conductivity.…”
