Fifth generation mobile networks are being developed to compensate the explosive growth of data traffic and shortage of spectrum. Fifth generation networks consist of multi‐tier heterogeneous network in which multi cells and multi networks are involved. The heterogeneity of different classes of base station improves spectral efficiency and provides flexible coverage area. Hence, in the heterogeneous network environment, deciding to which one mobile should connect is called network selection problem. In this paper, network selection problem in heterogeneous network is simulated by multi attribute decision making algorithm, game theory, and prospect theory. Prospect theory is new in the field of network selection. The weights for different network attributes are computed by analytical hierarchical process, standard deviation, and entropy method. The 4 different applications, i.e., video, voice, web browsing, and email transfer are considered for which available bandwidth, packet jitter, packet loss, and cost per byte are taken as most important attributes, respectively. The weights for different applications are calculated by analytical hierarchical process method. The selection is done in environment composed of heterogeneous networks such as Wi‐Fi, WiMAX, WLAN, LTE, UMTS, and GPRS. So different networks are selected for different applications because only 1 network cannot fulfill the requirement of the all applications. The performance of different methods is shown in relative standard deviation and accuracy. Prospect theory gives the maximum values of relative standard deviation and accuracy.

Radio resource management (RRM) is crucial for improving resource utilization in heterogeneous wireless networks. Existing work attempts to exploit the network diversity to gain throughput improvement for users, which, however, neglects the impact of user demand on RRM. Armed with the idea that the ultimate goal of communications is to serve users with personalized demand, we introduce another dimension of potential performance gain, user demand diversity gain. This gain derives from the elaborate matching between user demand and radio resource, which can not be directly attained in existing throughput-centric optimization due to users' blindness in maximizing throughput. Aiming at obtaining this gain, we propose the user demand-centric optimization, where users seek to maximize quality of experience (QoE), instead of throughput. This shift enables us to propose a novel game formulation, QoE game. We derive the condition on the existence of the QoE equilibrium, validate the user demand diversity gain and propose a distributed QoE equilibrium learning algorithm. Finally, a cloud assisted learning framework is proposed to accommodate the learning algorithm with significantly reduced cost. Simulation results validate the existence of user demand diversity gain and the effectiveness of the proposed learning algorithm in improving the system efficiency and QoE fairness.Index Terms-Heterogeneous wireless network, radio resource management, user demand diversity, QoE game.

Current vehicular communication systems experience from nonflexible and costly devices, complicated control-plane protocols, and vendor-specific configuration interfaces. In the next generation vehicular communication, a mobile device (MD) will be installed on a car capable of accessing multiple services from different networks. So heterogeneous networks (HetNets) may play a vital role in vehicular communication. Despite heterogeneity, flawless connectivity between different systems is a basic need of the travellers. The key challenge for seamless connectivity is the design of a vertical handover (VHO) scheme.We claim that software-defined networking (SDN) can make things easier in the design and supervision of VHO in vehicular HetNet. The proposed method maximizes the HetNet utilization with lesser handover by balancing the load among the HetNets. Simulation results performed in MATLAB justified that this novel architecture with proper VHO technique boosts the performance by balancing the load, reducing unnecessary VHO, etc. Performance is analyzed by considering four studies, ie, handover served ratio (HSR), on board units (OBUs), OBU served ratio (OSR), and total throughput and total capacities of road side units (RSUs) to serve handover demands from OBUs. It is observed that the HSR increases rapidly as the number of OBUs increases, which indicates almost all the handover requested OBUs are allocated resources by a connected RSU. We also studied the served total throughput by considering VHO with SDN, without SDN in the average case and without SDN in the best case, and it is observed that with SDN as a central controller, the total OSR and total throughput is increased.
