“…According to Carter and al [11], TULA resulted in more pain and longer operative time without improving short term recovery or complications comparing to the three ports laparoscopic appendectomy , while in our study the PEA was associated with significantly shorter operative time and lower complication rate than the conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (Table 3). In a precedent study performed in our department the mean operative time for conventional laparoscopic appendectomy was 53 min.…”

“…Less post-operative pain also allows less use of analgesics. In the study conducted by Carter et al [20] showed the SILA patients reported a mean pain score of 4.4 of 10 in the first 12 hours after surgery, compared with 3.5 for 3-port patients. A visual analogous scale was used from 0-10 in which 0 refers no pain whereas as 10 refers to severe pain in ascending order.…”

“…As one study by Adolfo et al [30] showed the mean postoperative hospital stay was shorter in the SILA group than in the 3PLA group but the difference was not significant. Other studies though, didn't find a much significant difference in hospital stay [20,23,31,32]. However some studies regarding SILC was said to have a significantly shorter stay in the hospital [33].…”

“…In addition, in recent years, efforts to improve LA have led to a reduction in port size diameter and the number of laparoscopic access sites needed and to the introduction of SILS. [6][7][8][9] Between July 2008 and April 2013, 360 patients with colorectal cancer underwent laparoscopic surgery at our institution. Our experience with this surgical technique showed it to be safe and feasible, with good short-and long-term outcomes.…”
