A Pt(II)‐based Hexagonal Ionic Supramolecular Coordination Complex and its DNA Interactions.

Abstract: A pyrimidine based organic donor clip with pendant pyridyl rings has been designed for its use in construction of a supramolecular coordination complex (SCC). This molecule is a new addition to the library of "nitrogen donor ligands" that have been used as building blocks to yield SCCs of various shapes and sizes. Its self-assembly with a suitable complementary metal based acceptor tecton yielded a unique [1 + 1] hexagonal macrocycle that was characterized using a suite of analytical tools. The platina metalla… Show more

“…In the last few years, our group has also conveyed several semi-rigid/flexible ditopic platinum(II) organometallic complexes (32-34, Figure 15). [37,46,70,71] These are derived from a six-membered aromatic heterocycle. 32 and 33 are examples of a flexible ditopic platinum(II) organometallic complex with a pyrazine ring in their core.…”

“…34 is another example of a di-Pt(II) acceptor with a central pyrazine motif that is also flexible in nature. [37,71] In self-assembly reaction, it (34) acts as the rigid anthracene-based molecular clip because both have the two Pt(II) reactive centers nearly parallel to each other and pointing in the same direction. However, flexibility in 34 is attributed to the unrestricted rotation of certain C-C bonds.…”

“…[60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69] Such metallacycles feature coordination bonds formed between organic molecule-based "donor" and metal-based "acceptor" tectons. [70,71] To date, numerous self-assembled architectures such as two-dimensional (2D) "metallacycles" [72][73][74] and three-dimensional (3D) "metallacages" [75][76][77] have been reported using various combinations of donor and acceptor building blocks (tectons). In case of 2D macrocycles, the ensembles may be ionic or neutral depending on whether the donor tectons used are respectively neutral (such as 4,4 0 -bipyridyl, pyrazine, and others) or ionic (such as terephthalate, fumarate, squarate, and others).…”
