A pulsed power generator for x-pinch experiments

Abstract: A ;500 kV0400 kA0100 ns pulsed power generator~PPG-I! for x-pinch experiments was designed and constructed at Tsinghua University. It is composed of a Marx generator, a combined pulse forming line~PFL!, a gas-filled V0N field distortion switch, a transfer line, and a copper-sulphate resistive load for testing. The PPG-I implements a novel design in lines that four pieces of waterline with impedance 5V in parallel constitute a combined PFL with 1.25V, and incorporate each other by a common self-break V0N switch… Show more

“…In recent years, with the development of pulsed power technology Kuai et al, 2009;Liu et al, 2006;Yatsui et al, 2005;Zou et al, 2006), devices generating high power microwave (HPM) have been developed greatly (Benford et al, 2007;He et al, 2011;Li et al, 2010;Tang et al, 2013;Zhang et al, 2010). And power level in excess of 1 GW has been achieved in a number of cases (Cao et al, 2012a;Eltchaninov et al, 2003;Gao et al, 2012;Ge et al, 2010;Jin et al, 2011;Xiao et al, 2010).…”

“…Intense electron-beam accelerators (IEBA) based on the Blumlein line (Friedman et al, 1988;Phelps et al, 1990;Liu et al, 2006) is widely used in a great variety of applications such as in lasers (Sethian et al, 2000;Apruzese et al, 2006), high power microwave generators (HPMG) (Clark et al, 1988;Fan et al, 2008;He et al, 2011), X-pinch (Zou et al, 2006;Li et al, 2008), X-ray generation (Coogan et al, 1990;Kuai et al, 2009), and so on. At present, the increase of power and repetitive rate and the duration of the output pulse (Liu et al, 2007a;Yatsui et al, 2005) are the important development trend for an accelerator.…”

“…Lasers, pulsed power machines, high explosives and intense particle beams from accelerators are commonly used experimental tools to generate high energy density states in matter (Fortov et al 2007;Hora 2007;Tahir et al 2007b;Varentsov et al 2007a;Zou et al 2006;Zvorykin et al 2007). Among these techniques heavy ion beams are relatively new (Varentsov et al 2007b).…”
