A quantile regression approach to explain the relationship of Fatigue and Cortisol, Cytokine among Koreans with Hepatitis B

Abstract: Fatigue is a major symptom among patients with Hepatitis B virus (HBV). However, the physiological mechanisms regarding mediate fatigue and the relationships between fatigue, cortisol and cytokines are unclear in patients with HBV. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between perceived fatigue, cortisol, and cytokines in Korean patients with HBV. The mean score for overall fatigue was moderate. In linear regression analyses, TNF-α was only significant as a predictor of fatigue. In quantil… Show more

“…Although the Hep B Care ® program had no significant effect on perceived fatigue in the EG, their cortisol levels changed significantly. A previous study on Korean patients with the HBV reported that patients with higher fatigue levels had lower levels of cortisol [ 16 ]. This pattern of cortisol is similar to that of chronic fatigue syndrome [ 39 ].…”

“…The study outcomes were derived as follows through a literature review. Fatigue is the most frequently reported physical symptom in patients with the HBV, and cortisol is a representative biomarker associated with fatigue [ 16 ]. Anxiety and depression have also been reported as the most prevalent emotional symptoms in patients with the HBV [ 17 ].…”

“…Fatigue, a typical symptom of hepatitis, was low-to-moderate in patients with HBV. Additionally, the characteristics of fatigue were more psychological than physical [28]. Further, Korea has a national healthcare insurance system, whereby medical expenses related to HBV treatment can be reimbursed.…”

“…Quantile regression has gained an increasing attention from very different scientific disciplines 8 , including financial and economic applications 9 , medical applications 10 , wind power forecasting 11 , electric load forecasting 12 , environmental modelling 13 and meteorological modelling 14 (these references are just examples and the list is not exhaustive). To our knowledge, despite its success in other areas, quantile regression has not been applied in the framework of air quality, with the exception of 15 .…”
