A randomized, triple‐blind, placebo‐controlled, parallel study to evaluate the efficacy of a freshwater marine collagen on skin wrinkles and elasticity

Abstract: Background: Collagen is the primary component in human skin. With age, there is loss of skin elasticity and collagen, resulting in wrinkle formation and reduction in skin appearance. Aims: The objective of this randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a hydrolyzed marine collagen (Vinh Wellness Collagen, VWC) on aspects of skin health and quality in women between 45 and 60 years of age. Patients/Methods: Assessments of skin wrinkles, elasticity, and self-rep… Show more

“…Evans et al performed a randomized, placebo-controlled, blind study to evaluate the efficacy of hydrolyzed marine collagen on skin health in women between 45 and 60 years of age. The results supported that the use of fish-derived hydrolyzed collagen could improve skin health in an aging population [53].…”

“…It was also observed that cheek skin elasticity significantly improved at 6 weeks post-treatment. Furthermore, compared to the placebo group, it was noted that in addition to elasticity and wrinkle improvements, there was a 14% improvement in hydration, 22% improvement in radiance, and a 25% improvement in skin firmness [82]. In another experiment using chronologically aged mice, topical application or oral consumption of collagen hydrolysates was shown to have positive effects on skin aging [83].…”

“…Evans et al conducted a randomized and triple-blinded clinical trial on 45-60-year-old women to demonstrate the impact of collagen from a freshwater fish on wrinkled skin and elasticity [82]. After three months of taking the collagen supplement, there was a significant reduction (35%) in wrinkles of participants compared to baseline [82]. It was also observed that cheek skin elasticity significantly improved at 6 weeks post-treatment.…”

“…Nowadays, many cosmetic products are focusing on the ECM components to achieve facial rejuvenation effect. These products are beneficial for repairing the broken collagen, restoring new collagen, and hydrating the tissue to help maintain the skin firm and moist (9)(10)(11). In this study, ECM-C, a product containing multiple ECM components, such as types I/III/IV/VII collagen, laminin, nidogen, and hyaluronic acid, helped to restore the firm skin barrier to sustain a youthful appearance.…”
