Based on panel data from 30 provinces in mainland China from 2011 to 2017, this research investigates the spatial spillover effect and nonlinear impact of digital economy (DE) on green and high-quality manufacturing industry (GHMI) using the spatial econometric and panel threshold model. It is found that both the DE and GHMI have a significant positive spatial correlation. The spatial econometric model under different weights all illustrate that regional DE has not significantly promoted GHMI in local region, but produced a significant positive influence on GHMI in neighboring regions. The east region has a higher degree of DE, while the level of DE in the central and west regions are both lower and close to each other. The level of GHMI shows a decreasing pattern in the east, central and west regions in that order. In addition, the impact of DE on GHMI presents a significant single threshold effect. With the improvement of DE, GHMI has a U-shaped change trend. Attention should be paid to the threshold effect of DE on GHMI, control the development speed of DE within a reasonable range, scientifically allocate DE resources according to different regional economic development levels in order to promote GHMI.

Scientific research on emerging technologies underscored the advantages of their implementation within production systems, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). In particular, the integration of AI with other cutting-edge technologies is a relevant topic which can potentially lead to huge impacts in terms of business performance. Yet, literature on the subject, although rich, is still fragmented, limited to specific cases and applications, but lacking in a comprehensive classification framework. Therefore, using a systematic literature review, this study provides an overview of how the combination of AI and other cutting-edge technologies could potentially improve market and organisational performance in business functions and processes. By classifying the literature of case studies and real-world applications into specific taxonomies, the research considers an indicator, the co-occurrence ratio, highlighting the most significant and emerging combinations between AI and other cutting-edge technologies, also specifying the contexts in which they are used. The study shows that AI is strongly interconnected with other cutting-edge technologies, suggesting a research agenda in which the integration of AI with other emerging technologies is promising within specific production systems contexts, providing benefits and opportunities for companies.

Open and Crowd-Based Platforms: Impact on Organizational and Market Performance

The aim of the research was to present the state of the art on the use of open and crowd-based platforms and the advantages in terms of business performance that emerging practices employing such technologies are able to provide. The analysis was performed by extracting information on emerging practices from the repository Business Process Framework for Emerging Technologies developed by the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Salerno (Italy). Contingency tables allowed analysis of the association of such practices with industry, business function, business process, and impact on performance. From the analysis of the results, many implementation opportunities emerge, mainly in manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation industries, providing benefits not only in terms of efficiency and productivity, cost reduction, and information management but also in product/service differentiation. Therefore, the research provides an overview of opportunities for organizations employing open and crowd-based platforms in order to improve market and organizational performance. Moreover, the article highlights in what specific business contexts these technologies can be mainly useful.
