A Reliable Transmission Protocol for ZigBee-Based Wireless Patient Monitoring

Abstract: Patient monitoring systems are gaining their importance as the fast-growing global elderly population increases demands for caretaking. These systems use wireless technologies to transmit vital signs for medical evaluation. In a multihop ZigBee network, the existing systems usually use broadcast or multicast schemes to increase the reliability of signals transmission; however, both the schemes lead to significantly higher network traffic and end-to-end transmission delay. In this paper, we present a reliable t… Show more

“…This finds vast application in the remote places where the people are out of reach from the experienced doctors; keeping this factor in mind best effort is done to implement some of the basic test of pathological data on the system[3] [5].Karandeep Malhi et al [1] develop Zigbee smart noninvasive wearable physiological parameters monitoring device has been developed and reported in this paper. The system can be used to monitor physiological parameters, such as temperature and heart rate, of a human subject.…”

“…So to overcome these limitations of systems I have proposed a new system. This system is able to transmit the parameters of patient continuously and over long distance wirelessly [5]. Due to which we would be able attend the patient immediately.…”

“…For example, home patient monitoring may help to increase the healthcare systems capacity by reducing the hospitals bed occupancy rate, (Goldberg & Wickramasinghe, 2003). As well, it can be used as an effective tool for the assessment of the health condition and wellbeing of elderly people (Chen et al, 2012) (Teng et al, 2008). Because of its potential impact in the provision of healthcare services by means of new paradigms, remote patient monitoring has attracted considerable attention from the industrial and academic communities.…”

“…In the telecare smart home, the nodes are classified into four types: wearable sensor, RF generator, reference node, and gateway. In the event of a fall, the wearable sensor detects the event and transmits the fall alarm to the gateway to trigger the indoor positioning subsystem based on the reliable transmission protocol [15]. The server in the smart home calculates the location of the faller by the RSSI values broadcasted from the RF generator to all reference nodes and to the wearable sensor.…”
