A report on the Puddle (Bleating) Frog Occidozyga lima (Gravenhorst) from theTeknaf Peninsula, Bangladesh, with notes on the presence of other vertebrates

Abstract: On the basis of a six-day survey of southeastern Bangladesh Occidozyga lima appeared to be a common species in the Teknaf Peninsula. The most common amphibians of the region are the Cricket Frog Limnonectes limnocharis, Skipping Frog Euphlyctis cyanophlyctis, Ornate Narrow-mouthed Frog Microhyla ornata, Indian Bull Frog Hoplobatrachus tigerinus and Common Toad Bufo melanostictus. Two species of tree frogs Polypedates leucomystax and Polypedates maculatus are also common.

“…Likewise, informal surveys conducted in central Bangladesh within Bhawal National Park and in northwest Bangladesh within rural areas near Rajshahi did not detect the presence of Occidozyga or Phrynoglossus (S Trageser, S Rahman, 2011-2019, SCR personal observations). Furthermore, surveys described in Khan (2001) did not observe these genera within the Sylhet region in northeast Bangladesh. No observations of Occidozyga are known between Nilphamari District and the northernmost known locality of Kaptai National Park, a distance of approximately 480 km, despite regions between these two observations having been surveyed.…”

“…The species also habits open forest areas, as well as forest edges with temporary water accumulation (puddles and moats) [24]. Unlike the Occidozyga lima, almost all individuals of Fejervarya limnocharis are found in the estuaries.…”
