A reprodutibilidade do espelho de Glatzel modificado na aferição da permeabilidade nasal

Abstract: The Glatzel Mirror (GM) is used to evaluate nasal patency.Validation studies are not available in the literature. This paper aims to verify the GM test reproducibility and the correlation between the intra-subject condensation area and nasal patency subjective perception. Methods: This is a prospective study. 25 subjects were evaluated with the GM for five consecutive minutes, every half an hour for 4 hours; every day, beginning in the early afternoon, every Thursday for five consecutive weeks. A visual analog… Show more

“…Additionally, attention must be paid to the influence of personal variables such as vital capacity [41,42] and language and dental anomalies [49] on this parameter. Considering the mirror-fogging test by Glatzel [15], environmental variables such as air moisture, temperature and tilting errors may affect the amount of condensation [50]. However, in this study, 71 of the 74 participants were located in the category ‘no condensation', which leads to the suspicion of no influence of these variables on the observations.…”

“…This instrument has been used in some studies aiming to assess the nasal airflow (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(18)(19)(20) . PNIF has been widely used in studies aimed at the assessment of nasal airflow, especially in allergic rhinitis patients.…”

“…A variable examined before and after surgery was the diameter of vapor (DV) on the mirror positioned under the patient's nose while articulating test sentences: the Glatzel mirror-fogging test [17]. We used nasal sentences [18] in Polish containing many nasal phonemes (see Appendix).…”

“…The condensation contour was measured along its greater axis from the zero point to the longest dimension on both sides of the nose. The sum of the right and left nasal fossa unilateral values was calculated for the final assessment [17]. …”
