A Resected Gallbladder Carcinoma Coexisting With Adenomyomatosis Involving Varied Degrees of Intraepithelial Dysplasia: A Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: A 59-year-old asymptomatic man underwent ultrasonography, which revealed gallstones and thickened gallbladder wall. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a slightly swollen bilocular gallbladder and a soft tissue mass in the fundus site. Segmental adenomyomatosis (ADM) was suspected because numerous fundic cystic lesions were seen on magnetic resonance imaging. Endoscopic ultrasonography revealed numerous Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses (RAS) and a papillary

“…Conventional ultrasound examination is easy to operate, noninvasive, low in price, and easy to be accepted by patients. It is recognized as the first choice for the diagnosis of gallbladder cancer [ 15 ]. However, because of the limitations of the technology itself, the microvessels of the lesion cannot be well-evaluated.…”

“…Both focal ADM and focal GBC show early homogenous enhancement. Smooth mucosal continuity with surrounding GB epithelium is seen in cases of ADM[ 55 ]. Although ADM is not considered to have malignant potential, there have been few case reports which have shown concomitant existence of ADM and GBC[ 55 , 56 ].…”

Although ADM is not considered to have malignant potential, there have been few case reports which have shown concomitant existence of ADM and GBC[ 55 , 56 ]. Morikawa et al [ 57 ] performed a retrospective study in 624 patients who underwent surgical resection of GB with Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses.…”
