A review of optimal operation of microgrids

Abstract: The term microgrid refers to small-scale power grid that can operate autonomously or in concurrence with the area’s main electrical grid. The intermittent characteristic of DGs which defies the power quality and voltage manifests the requirement for new planning and operation approaches for microgrids. Consequently, conventional optimization methods in new power systems have been critically biased all through the previous decade. One of the main technological and inexpensive tools in this regard … Show more

“…Hence, considering these are essential while planning MGs [11,12]. The availability of abundant RERs in India provides a high possibility of harnessing these sources as an alternative for remote area electrification [10][11][12][13]. The energy conversion systems like PV, and wind turbine (WT) can be used in combination by making hybrid configurations, especially MGs or hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES).…”

“…The energy conversion systems like PV, and wind turbine (WT) can be used in combination by making hybrid configurations, especially MGs or hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES). These hybrid configurations will improve system reliability and performance while decreasing fluctuations in the generation, investment costs, and storage system size [11,13]. During the grid-independent operation, the off-grid hybrid system may not be able to support the full load; therefore, ESSs provide the backup energy needs during conditions of variable output power from the RERs [13][14][15][16][17].…”

“…The survey on existing research works on the optimal strategies for the operation of MGs is proposed in [3]. Reference [4] reviews and compares different optimization techniques applied for achieving optimal operation of MGs from diverse perceptions, in terms of objective functions, optimization techniques, constraints and computational performances. An operation optimization modeling for a MG considering the distributed generation, environmental factors and DR is proposed in [5].…”
