The rise of energy demand and ecological contaminations encourage the utilization of alcohol bases on substitutes fuels in spark ignition (SI) engine. The fusel oil is a byproduct acquired from fermentation process with higher alcohol content. It has high-octane and less exhaust emissions; therefore, it takes significant place between the substitutes fuels. During this study, the impact of utilizing mixtures of pure gasoline & fusel oil on engine exhaust emissions & performance has been evaluated after water extraction from fusel oil. A single-cylinder, four-stroke SI engine has been utilized in these tests. The examinations execute at different speeds. The experiment fuels mixed with fusel oil at proportions of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30%. At each speed, the engine’s performance & emissions measurement have been conducted. During the experimentations, it has been noticed that the torque (T) and specified fuel consumption (SFC) rises as the quantity of fusel oil risen in the mixture. Carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are decreased as the quantity of fusel oil is raised in mixtures.

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy analysis is one of the most rapid detection methods for determining ethanol content in gasoline. Wavelength selection is a key step in the multivariate calibration analysis of NIR spectroscopy. To improve detection accuracy of ethanol content in gasoline and provide a simpler interpretation, we established NIR spectroscopy, a rapid analysis method based on the effective characteristic spectra. Five effective characteristic spectral bands were used according to the molecular structure of ethanol, followed by the development of four modeling schemes. The four modeling schemes spectra, NIR full spectra, and variable importance projection (VIP) spectra were used for modeling and analysis. The model was established based on the effective characteristic spectra without the interference spectra of aromatic hydrocarbons, achieving the best model performance. In addition, the model was further evaluated by internal cross-validation and external validation. The model’s evaluation parameters were as follows: the root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV) was 0.6193, the correlation coefficient of internal cross-validation ( R CV 2 ) was 0.9995, the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) was 0.5572, and the correlation coefficient of external prediction validation ( R P 2 ) was 0.9995. The effective characteristic spectra model had smaller RMSEP and RMSECV values, and larger R CV 2 and R P 2 values compared to the full spectra and VIP spectra models. In conclusion, the effective characteristic spectra model had the highest accuracy and could provide rapid analysis of the ethanol content in gasoline.

The main objective of this study was to compare the effects of two densities (278 stems·ha−1 with two spacings of 6 m × 6 m or 4.5 m × 8 m, 400 stems·ha−1 with two spacings of 5 m × 5 m or 3 m × 8 m) and three poplar clones (NL95, NL895, and NL797) on productivity and carbon (C) sequestration of poplar ecosystems. The results showed that planting density significantly affected the biomass of a single tree. The mean tree biomass of clone NL95 was higher in all spacings than that of the other clones, with a significant difference for the 6 m × 6 m spacing. The biomass of poplar trees ranged from 78.9 to 110.3 Mg·ha−1, with the highest tree biomass observed in the square configuration. Soil C concentration (0–100 cm) increased after 12 years of management. Soil C storage ranged from 138.1 to 164.3 Mg C·ha−1, and the highest soil C storage was in the NL797 poplar plantation with 6 m × 6 m spacing. Our results suggested that clones NL95 and NL797 should be chosen for planting, with a planting density of 278 stems·ha−1 and spacing of 6 m × 6 m.
