A review on precast structural concrete walls and connections

Abstract: Extreme events, with natural or manmade causes, such as floods, pandemics and wars, have recently brought the need to provide shelter and field hospitals in a very fast and affordable way. Prefabrication can play an relevant role in this context, by offering several advantages compared to on-site construction. The precast structural wall system is a paradigmatic example of how precast structural members can contribute to speed up construction and reduce costs. A new research project was defined to develop with… Show more

“…These connections are broadly categorized into two types: wet and dry connections [10,11]. Wet connections involve the use of protruding reinforcement bars from the precast concrete components and the application of cast-in-place concrete [12]. These connections exhibit a seismic performance akin to monolithic joints, demonstrating good energy dissipation and bearing capacity [13].…”

“…The widespread applications and associated research into the assembled frame structures primarily stem from their characteristics, such as extensive engineering applicability and outstanding structural performance [2,3]. The connection performance of joints plays a crucial role in the seismic performance of assembled structures, and assembled structure connections can be categorized in different ways [4][5][6][7][8]. Connections can be categorized into equivalent cast-in-place connections and non-equivalent cast-in-place connections based on the different resistance modes.…”

“…Güllü et al [8,9] employed various numerical and finite element models to simulate errors, with these models representing different dynamic effects and the practical application area of Fourier spectrum calculations. At present, shear wall systems integrated into building structures exhibit noteworthy lateral stiffness, adeptly meeting the structural demands of high-rise buildings, and have found widespread application in precast concrete structure systems [10][11][12].…”
