A review on the applications of polyurea in the construction industry

Abstract: Polyurea has drawn the attention of construction activists and engineers as a modern building material due to its unique structure, unique properties, and relatively easy application even in hard‐to‐reach places. A wide range of excellent properties such as durability and high resistance against the atmospheric, chemical, and biological factors have made this polymer a superb option for the construction industry. The ability to reinforce the building materials and structures coupled with excellent resistance a… Show more

“…† A-PU 1.2 s put up rather high average adhesion strength to steel (14.43 AE 1.39 MPa) and glass (12.75 AE 0.34 MPa), which is comparable to the thermosetting polyurea adhesives. 51 For steel substrates, the unreacted amino groups and nitrogen atoms can also coordinate with metallic elements, like Fe and Cr, which may provide additional adhesive forces (Fig. 4a).…”

“…[73] Polyurethanes (PUT) and polyurea (PU) are widely used polymer materials in coatings, adhesives, medical science, manufacturing, and construction industries. [75,82,83] These polymers are produced by condensation of di/poly-isocyanates with di/poly- Chemistry-A European Journal alcohols/amines in suitable conditions. Efforts to prepare PUT and PU nanoparticles/capsules via different mini-emulsion polymerization techniques were reported.…”

“…Polyureas (PUrs) are polymers bearing urea groups in the backbones, which can form bidentate hydrogen bonds between polymer chains 1 . Compared with polyurethanes which have monodentate hydrogen bonds, PUrs show higher values of polarity, crystallinity, melting point, and rigidity 2,3 . Therefore, PUrs exhibit more excellent properties such as thermal stability, mechanical performance, chemical resistance, and so forth 4 .…”
