A Review on the Understanding and Trend of Dental Implant Surface Treatment

Abstract

Objectives: Osseointegration is important to success of dental implants, it is influenced by dental implant surface treatment. Recently, it could be classified into the five generations.
 Methods: Data were collected using electronic journals and books.
 Results: Machined type surface belongs to the first generation, the second generation of surface treatment includes blasted, acid-etching and titanium plasma spraying type surfaces. The third generation consists of hydroxyapatite coating type surface, the fourth generation is developed anodizing oxidation the surface that using bioactive factors. Finally, the five generation uses recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2).
 Conclusions: It is thought that more innovative dental implant surface treatment will be developed according to the development of science technology
