A robust and semi-automatic procedure for Silicon Photomultipliers characterisation

Abstract: A: Silicon Photomultipliers are state-of-the-art solid state sensors of light with single photon sensitivity, unprecedented photon number resolving capability and high photon detection efficiency. SiPM are cost effective, compact, magnetic field insensitive and with an extreme flexibility in the design to cope with different applications in fundamental and applied science and industry. As a rapidly evolving technology, new generation of sensors are being continuously proposed by different producers, requiring … Show more

“…Exemplary spectra for two sensors are shown in Figure 3. The peaks correspond to the different number of fired cells and the shape of the spectrum measures the Poissonian properties of the emitted light, convoluted with detector effects (notably optical cross talk and after pulses) [17,18,19,20].…”

“…In past years, intensive investigations have been carried out to the applications of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) in high energy physics, astrophysics and nuclear medical imaging due to its advantages such as high gain, low bias voltage, photon number discrimination, robustness, excellent timing properties and insensitivity to magnetic fields [2][3][4][5][6]. In general, SiPM is composed of hundreds to thousands of APD cells.…”
