A Robust Hybrid Watermarking Technique for Securing Medical Image

Abstract: In the aim to contribute to the security of medical image, we present a robust watermarking method which combines discrete wavelet transform (DWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT) and singular value decomposition (SVD). This approach is intended to insert an invisible image watermark in a medical image. The cover medical image is divided up into the third level of DWT coefficients and then is transformed by DCT and SVD. The same procedure is applied to the watermark image. The singular value of watermark is in… Show more

“…Watermarking is a data hiding technique. This method requires cover media which is generally in the form of video, image, or audio [1,2]. Whereas logos or messages that are embedded as copyright on media covers generally can be in the form of images or text, but in watermarking, copyright in the form of images is preferred because it is more resistant to attack, while copyright in the form of a text can change meaning significantly when there is a change in bit value due to attacks.…”

“…One of the requirements for image watermarking is that the copyright size must be smaller than the media cover. Also, the watermark results in musthave aspects such as imperceptibility, robustness, and security [1][2][3][4]. Watermarking is quite similar to the steganography method because these two methods are both branches of data hiding science.…”

“…However, there are still other attacks that greatly change the medical image after the watermark is inserted, such as cropping, flipping, rotate, attacks in this study are still limited. I. Assini et al [11] employed the DWT-DCT-SVD hybrid watermarking technique to ensure copyright rights and medical image security. DWT provides better identification based on the characteristics of the Human Visual System (HVS).…”

“…But the trade-off between robustness and imperceptibility is always the opposite. Domain transformation methods such as DCT, DWT, and SVD are widely applied and proven to work well on image watermarking [4,[6][7][8][9][10][11][12], but each method still has advantages and disadvantages. The DCT method is a standard transformation used in JPEG compression, so by using this method, the results will generally be robust to compression attacks.…”
