Building Information Modelling (BIM) education is gaining more attention from various parties such as government, industry, and academicians. Many universities have integrated BIM into their curricula by using various approaches and teaching methods, but there is no commonly accepted approach to teaching BIM in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) programs. This research aims to identify the level of BIM literacy among students in higher education institutions and its correlation with the components of BIM learning and the outcomes of BIM learning progress. A quantitative method was adopted where Partial Least Square -Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis was used to analyze the data. Questionnaires were distributed to the respondents for data collection. A total of 33 respondents were chosen, consisting of second-year undergraduate Construction Management students at Universiti Sains Malaysia. The results were analyzed by using SPSS and SmartPLS 3. SPSS was used to study the correlation between variables, whereas SmartPLS was used to conduct other tests such as the path coefficient, bootstrapping, coefficient of determination (R-squared), effect size (F-squared), collinearity statistics (VIF), inner and outer VIF value, outer loading and outer weights. From the result findings, it was found that the respondents have less knowledge of the BIM software. The respondents also felt neutral toward improving their CGPA through BIM courses. Results showed that 3D parametric modeling and outcomes of BIM learning are correlated. For future research, the focus can be shifted to other BIM competencies, such as the managerial, functional, technical, and support aspects of BIM.

Evaluation of Complexity Issues in Building Information Modeling Diffusion Research

This study aimed to ascertain the research status of complexity issues in building information modeling (BIM) diffusion and identify future research directions in this field. A total of 366 relevant journal articles were holistically evaluated. The visualization analysis indicated that management aspects, emergent trends (such as green building, facility management, and automation), and theme clusters (such as interoperability, waste management, laser scanning, stakeholder management, and energy efficiency) are shaping BIM research towards complexity. Areas such as supply chain, cost, digital twin, and web are also essential. The manual qualitative evaluation classified the complexity issues in BIM diffusion research into three types (complexities of network-based BIM evolution, impact of BIM adoption circumstances, and BIM-based complexity reduction for informed decision making). It was concluded that BIM has been shifting towards information models and systems-based life cycle management, waste control for healthy urban environments, and complex data analysis from a big data perspective, not only in building projects but also in heritage and infrastructure, or at the city scale, for informed decision making and automatic responses. Future research should investigate the co-evolution between collaborative networks and BIM artefacts and work processes, quality improvement of BIM-based complex networks, BIM post-adoption behaviors influenced by complex environmental contexts, and BIM-based complexity reduction approaches.

Heritage building information modeling (HBIM) can be considered a tool that can be utilized as an approach for heritage buildings' maintenance plans, as maintaining these valuable buildings, either for unexpected events or preventive maintenance, can improve communication and integrate all of the necessary information together. HBIM can streamline the maintenance decision-making process by providing a digital representation of the heritage building's characteristics and its state of conservation, so the information can be more evident to a decision. Because maintenance is sometimes seen as a luxury and not a top priority in developed countries, this research proposes a solution for putting accurate and precise maintenance programs into practice and establishing a database that might improve Egypt's maintenance strategy for heritage buildings. Because they are not crucial to keeping the building operational, mandatory maintenance activities are treated as minor issues and dealt with in conventionally. There is currently no convenient mechanism in place to anticipate the effects of maintenance or to document the lessons learned from the previous repairs, meaning that the managerial and technical teams on every site have to start from the beginning without being able to use previous experience data from similar cases. The seventh pillar of BIM which related to facility management is a strategy for managing building upkeep and improving building efficiency by maintaining it.
