A shift from anaerobic digestion to dark fermentation in glycol ethylene fermentation

Abstract: Anaerobic digestion of aqueous glycol ethylene was tested. The process lasted two cycles of 7 days, but after the second cycle, high hydrogen production occurred shift to dark fermentation. The biogas production lasted 14 days, obtaining peak values of hydrogen, and then rapidly stopped. In investigations, the following were checked: dependence of hydrogen, methane and hydrogen sulphide in the process. Mixtures of water with glycol ethylene mass ratio from 0.6 to 0.85 were substrates in experiments. The highes… Show more

“…In the VSS 89% [49], sour cabbage was enough digested -anaerobic digestion bacteria easier convert it into methane. The fluctuations of ratios are bigger than in the case [44]. In every case there is a sudden outburst of hydrogen production on the first day, then replaced with higher hydrogen sulfide production, more than from glycol ethylene digestion.…”

“…All of the experiments were carried out, in triplicate, in 12 reactors, the mean values for biogas measurements are reported. The qualitative and quantitative parameters of the collected biogases were determined in one or two stages exactly like in [44]. The calibration of the device was performed twice a week.…”

“…In the semi-batch, 5 g VSS/L of sour cabbage or glucose was added to the inoculum. Every set of experiments was triplicate, the results were mean given are mean values similar to [ 31 ]. After addition, the pH value for the acidic value of the mixture was lowered (using 38% HCl) from 7.9 to 5.0.…”
