A signal-on electrochemiluminescence aptasensor based on the quenching effect of manganese dioxide for sensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen

Abstract: We developed a signal-on electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor by using SI-ATRP to facilitate highdensity immobilization of luminophores and manganese dioxide-graphene (MnO 2 -GO) composite to indirect deactivate the excited state of Ru(dcbpy) 3 2+ for ultrasensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). In this approach, manganese dioxide-graphene (MnO 2 -GO) composite served as an efficient quencher for indirect deactivating the excited state of Ru(dcbpy) 3 2+. Surface initiated atom transfer radi… Show more

“…All results proved that PEDOT/MnO 2 nanoellipsoids can achieve catecholamine molecules sensing by the electrochemical method. Using electrochemical biosensors, many other substances can also be detected, such as H 2 O 2 ,44e,120 carcinoembryonic antigen, dopamine,47c aflatoxin B 1 ,118b superoxide anions, etc.…”

“…20 This property makes it suitable for sensing applications. GO biosensors have been reported for the detection/discrimination of antibody oxytetracycline (4 pg ml À1 to 1 mg ml À1 ), 21 antibody Immunoglobulin E (1 pM to 10 nM), 22 bacterium Vibrio cholera (0.12-5.4 nM), 23 nucleic acid DNA (1.0 fM to 0.1 mM), 24 tumour marker carcinoembryonic antigen (0.1 pg ml À1 to 20 ng ml À1 ) 25 and monoamine catecholamine (1-10 mM). 26 There are however, inherent limitations in GO that prevent it from being used as an ultra-sensitive and high-loading transducer in FET molecular sensing applications.…”

“…For this reason, they have been used as models to develop innovative ECL-detection schemes, involving new electrode materials and innovative nanomaterial-based emitters. Recently, an aptasensor based on surface-initiated-atom-transfer-radical-polymerization (SI-ATRP), to facilitate high-density immobilization of luminophores, and manganese dioxide-graphene (MnO 2 -GO) composite (to indirectly deactivate the excited state of [Ru(bpy) 3 ] 2+ for ultrasensitive detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), was proposed [ 89 ]. In this approach, MnO 2 -GO composite served as an efficient quencher for indirect deactivation of the excited state of [Ru(bpy) 3 ] 2+ .…”
