A simple and compact fluorescence detection system for capillary electrophoresis and its application to food analysis

Abstract: A novel fluorescence detection system for CE was described and evaluated. Two miniature laser pointers were used as the excitation source. A Y-style optical fiber was used to transmit the excitation light and a four-branch optical fiber was used to collect the fluorescence. The optical fiber and optical filter were imported into a photomultiplier tube without any extra fixing device. A simplified PDMS detection cell was designed with guide channels through which the optical fibers were easily aligned to the de… Show more

“…None of these colorants were detected in the different samples analyzed. Banned food dyes have also been analyzed in foods to demonstrate the potential of a novel compact fluorescence detection system designed for CE analysis . Basically, this system was based on the use of two laser pointer as excitation sources, a Y‐style optical fiber to transport the excitation light, a four‐branch optical fiber to collect the emission light, a polydimethylsiloxane cell that combine capillary and fibers.…”

“…Various analytical methods have been used to determine RhB, including high-performance liquid chromatography, UV–vis spectrometry, , capillary electrophoresis, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, ion-exchange chromatography, and fast ion-pair reversed-phase chromatography . Although these methods are powerful, they bear either inconvenience, high cost, complex sample preparation, or being time-consuming.…”

“…Based on the similar working principle of LIF system, efforts have been made to improve fluorescence detection system. Optical fiber , optical waveguide , photodiode , and integrated semiconductor optoelectronic detector were applied to decrease the complexity, volume, and cost of fluorescence detection system. While less attention was paid to the detection width.…”
