In this study, the distribution information of lemon planting and the surface observation data during 1971-2017 from meteorological stations in Sichuan Province are adopted to reasonably plan the layout of lemon planting in Sichuan Province. Considering the elements of climate, soil and terrain affecting the planting distribution of lemon, 16 ecological factors are selected for the analysis and regionalization of the ecological suitability of lemon planting in Sichuan Province. Specifically, the maximum entropy model is used to establish the model for the relationship between the planting distribution of lemon and one of its potential influencing factors related to the climate. On this basis, dominant climatic factors affecting the planting distribution of lemon are investigated, and the distribution for corresponding suitability grades of these climatic factors are also revealed. The receiver operating characteristic curve is used to verify the simulation accuracy. The Jackknife method and correlation analysis are used to screen dominant climatic factors and analyze their relationship with the existence probability. Based on the ArcGIS platform, the spatial distributions for the regionalization indexes of soil and terrain are analyzed for the soil and terrain suitability regionalization of lemon planting in Sichuan Province. Furthermore, by using the ecological suitability analysis method and considering the weights of various indexes, the ecological suitability regionalization of lemon planting in Sichuan Province is obtained. The results show that the highly suitable regions for lemon planting with an area of 29,000 km 2 are mainly concentrated in Guang'an City, Nanchong City, Suining City, Ziyang City, Neijiang City and Zigong City, and some regions scattered in the Sichuan Basin as well. Predicting Potential Habitat of <i>Aconitum carmichaeli</i> Debeaux in China Based on Three Species Distribution Models

Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux is a perennial herb and medicinal plant, which has the effects of warming Yang and dispelling cold, warming meridians and relieving pain, dispelling wind and dehumidification, supplementing fire and helping Yang. In recent years, affected by the destruction of shrubs and climate warming, the habitat of A. carmichaeli wild resources has been seriously damaged, indicating of great significance to the artificial protection and cultivation of A. carmichaeli to predict its potential suitable habitat using species distribution models (SDMs). In this paper, 14 environmental variables and 449 specimen distribution records were applied to three models, i.e. MaxEnt, GARP and Bioclim to simulate the distribution of A. carmichaeli. Our results showed that, the AUC average values of the three models were all above 0.85 and the Kappa average values were above 0.75, justifying their applications for predicting the potential areas of A. carmichaeli. Furthermore, simulation of MaxEnt showed that, the highly suitable habitats were concentrated in the middle east of Sichuan (17.07×10 4 km 2 ), western Hubei (7.34×10 4 km 2 ), southern Shaanxi (7.2×10 4 km 2 ), north central Guizhou (6.74×10 4 km 2 ), eastern Chongqing (5.62×10 4 km 2 ) and western Hunan (5.21×10 4 km 2 ) and scattered in the middle of Zhejiang (3.07×10 4 km 2 ), the southwest Anhui (1.87×10 4 km 2 ) and western Henan (1.43×10 4 km 2 ). Jackknife test and response curves determined that the key variables affecting the distribution of A. carmichaeli were annual precipitation (751.25-1580.72 mm), precipitation of warmest quarter (422.71-717.21 mm), min temperature of coldest month (-6.85-3.12ºC), temperature annual range (24.83-31.97ºC), elevation (145.87-2769.22 m) and human footprint (<4.01).

Modelling Potential Distribution of Snow Leopards in Pamir, Northern Pakistan: Implications for Human–Snow Leopard Conflicts

The snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is a cryptic and rare big cat inhabiting Asia’s remote and harsh elevated areas. Its population has decreased across the globe for various reasons, including human–snow leopard conflicts (HSCs). Understanding the snow leopard’s distribution range and habitat interactions with human/livestock is essential for understanding the ecological context in which HSCs occur and thus gives insights into how to mitigate HSCs. In this study, a MaxEnt model predicted the snow leopard’s potential distribution and analyzed the land use/cover to determine the habitat interactions of snow leopards with human/livestock in Karakoram–Pamir, northern Pakistan. The results indicated an excellent model performance for predicting the species’ potential distribution. The variables with higher contributions to the model were the mean diurnal temperature range (51.7%), annual temperature range (18.5%), aspect (14.2%), and land cover (6.9%). The model predicted approximately 10% of the study area as a highly suitable habitat for snow leopards. Appropriate areas included those at an altitude ranging from 2721 to 4825 m, with a mean elevation of 3796.9 ± 432 m, overlapping between suitable snow leopard habitats and human presence. The human encroachment (human settlements and agriculture) in suitable snow leopard habitat increased by 115% between 2008 and 2018. Increasing encroachment and a clear overlap between snow leopard suitable habitat and human activities, signs of growing competition between wildlife and human/livestock for limited rangeland resources, may have contributed to increasing HSCs. A sound land use plan is needed to minimize overlaps between suitable snow leopard habitat and human presence to mitigate HSCs in the long run.
