A single-phase earth fault location scheme for distribution feeder on the basis of the difference of zero mode traveling waves

Abstract: SummaryTo eliminate the effect of line structure and unbalanced loads on the location of single-phase earth fault in distribution network, a new fault location method is proposed. In this method, the difference of the 2 zero mode traveling waves is taken as the criterion via injecting high voltage pulses into fault phase and nonfault phase, respectively. Through analyzing the transient response characteristic of distribution transformer and the propagation equation of traveling wave at the fault point, it is t… Show more

“…The transient signal is less affected by the neutral grounding mode, which makes it has a wider potential application. It is efficient to use the zerosequence current travelling wave to detect the faulty feeder even when the fault resistance is high [13]- [14]. However, it is difficult to detect the faulty feeder when the voltage inception angle is near zero.…”

“…In addition, the RS-dimension method based on fractal dimension is proposed in [8]. [9], [10] and [11] present new methods based on correlation methods and travelling-wave method respectively. However, unknown and wide range of ground resistance would influence the accuracy of passive methods.…”
