“…The performances reached in this paper still leave room for improvements, especially to achieve more user-friendly interfaces. However, the many assets of OFs and their ease of implementation would enable substantial alternatives to the traditional equipment currently used at a research level, for instance, their combination with smartphones and portable devices, the elaboration of online bioprofiling databases [30].…”

“…This original experimental study on Plasmodium falciparum cultures could open the door towards the integration of these OF probes into smaller biochips or bio-sticks connected to smartphone or specifically designed microfluidic packages. This could be of great interest for an innovative, portable and cost-effective diagnosis method [30][31][32].…”

“…Enzymes, most of which are proteins, can be detected using aptasensor such as Plasmodium falciparum glutamate dehydrogenase (PfGDH) [ 89 , 90 ] and creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB) [ 91 ]. To further increase the convenience of detection, Sanjay et al [ 92 ] constructed a multi-channel, smartphone-based optic fiber platform for quantitative detection of PfGDH. As depicted in Figure 4 b, the smartphone flashlight and camera were coupled to two ends of optic fiber by a four-channel smartphone accessory.…”

“…In that context, new-generation of affinity molecules like aptamers are being widely preferred due to their effectiveness and robustness [ 12 ]. Aptamers have already found application in several bioassay modalities such as Quartz crystal microbalance [ 13 , 14 ], Cantilever-based biosensing [ 15 , 16 ], electrochemistry [ 17 ], Surface plasmon resonance [ 18 , 19 ] and spectrophotometric assays [ 20 ].…”
