A SNP variation in the Sucrose synthase (SoSUS) gene associated with sugar-related traits in sugarcane

Supaporn Khanbo,
Suthasinee Somyong,
Phakamas Phetchawang
et al.

Abstract: Background Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is an economically significant crop for both the sugar and biofuel industries. Breeding sugarcane cultivars with high-performance agronomic traits is the most effective approach for meeting the rising demand for sugar and biofuels. Molecular markers associated with relevant agronomic traits could drastically reduce the time and resources required to develop new sugarcane varieties. Previous sugarcane candidate gene association analyses have found single nucleotide polymorp… Show more

“…SuSy, which catalyzes reversible reactions between sucrose and UDPG, participated in the sucrose degradation pathway (Stein and Granot, 2019). A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) variation in the SoSUS gene has been found to be significantly associated with sugar-related traits (Khanbo et al, 2023). Overexpression of PtSS3 alters fructose, glucose, and sucrose levels in Populus tomentosa stems and leaves .…”
