Based on a sociocultural theory and a plethora of experiential studies on the efficacy of scaffolding on foreign language learning, the goal of this research article is to examine the effectiveness of diverse types of scaffolding on university students’ lexical digesting and reading perception from a sociocultural standpoint. Using the Harvard Placement Test, 40 EFL students from a total of 70 were selected and divided into two experimental groups and a single control group. The first group (G1 Exp.) was given teaching with instructor scaffolding, the second group (G2 Exp.) received instruction with peer scaffolding, and the control group (G3 Cont.) received conventional instruction without any external enhancement. Pretests for lexical digesting and reading perception were administered to the three groups. Following the treatment, post-tests for lexical digesting and reading perception were administered. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to examine the collected data. The results showed a significant difference between instructor and peer scaffolding, with the peer scaffolding group outperforming the instructor scaffolding group. Both experimental groups outperformed the control group in lexical digesting and reading perception. Regarding various kinds of scaffolding, this study provided some advice for psycholinguists, curriculum designers, and language instructors.

The objective of this research is to explore the readability level of the Key Audit Matters (KAM) paragraph as well as its progress since the first time implementation of KAM for financial statements issued by auditors for listed companies in ASEAN countries. KAM paragraph is extracted from an audit opinion issued by a public accounting firm for companies listed in the capital market around ASEAN countries. Following prior research, by using learning curve theory as a basis, this research applies a quantitative approach to evaluate the readability of the KAM and its progress. Readability is measured by using several commonly used linguistic techniques, which are Flesch Reading Ease (FLESCH), Flesch–Kincaid (KINCAID), and Gunning Fog (FOG) measures). In addition to its role in KAM topic-related research, by bringing the perspective to focus more on readability, this research is able to provide new perspectives on the capability of KAM to affect financial statements users' decisions, as well as provide additional insight for the regulator or professional body for public accountant profession on designing the practical support and assistance to enhance the current practice of KAM writing done by the public accountant, as well as insight for the public accounting firm in preparing clearer and readable KAM paragraphs. This research used ASEAN market data as an emerging market and covered up to the recent year auditor's report to study the readability of the KAM paragraph. Despite some inconsistencies in the observation result, we can make an inference that the readability level of KAM produced by auditors for listed entities in ASEAN countries tend to be more difficult to read as number of experiences in issuing it increasing. This pattern is consistently shown when the sample is divided by type of Auditor and country of exchange. However, when the sample is further detailed down by industry sector, inferences is difficult to be made.

Mastering writing in English is crucial for English as a foreign language (EFL) learners; nevertheless, they encounter numerous difficulties, such as idea development, grammar complexities, vocabulary range, or even the pressure from writing anxiety. Consequently, many educators employ digital writing tools to enhance EFL learners’ English writing skills. This study aimed to explore Thai EFL university students’ perceptions of two digital writing tools, Paragraph Punch and ProWritingAid, as well as to investigate students’ writing performance. Participants consisted of 53 undergraduate EFL students enrolled in English education at a university in Thailand. Three research instruments were utilized: a 30-item questionnaire investigating participants’ perceptions of writing problems, a pre- and post-writing test assessing students’ writing development, and a semi-structured interview exploring students’ views on integrating digital writing tools in writing classes. The questionnaire findings emphasized various challenges students encountered in writing, including difficulties with idea development, grammar, and paragraph organization. The research further indicated a significant enhancement in students’ writing abilities after using digital writing tools. Additionally, students perceived that the improvements in their writing proficiency were due to the supportive guidance and real-time feedback provided by these digital writing tools. Nevertheless, there were concerns regarding excessive dependency on digital tools, the need for supplementary teacher feedback, and technological barriers.
