Single crystals of the title compound are synthesized by reaction of Gd2O3 in a NaCl/NH4H2PO4 reactive flux (Pt crucible, 1073 K, 24 h). Na3GdP2O8 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4. The structure contains a three-dimensional GdP2 anionic framework with two different types of tunnels in which the Na + cations are located. The framework is constructed by Gd polyhedra and isolated PO 4 tetrahedra.
