A spatial study of juvenile delinquency in urban Brisbane

Abstract

SYNOPSISThis thesis investigates spatial aspects of juvenile delinquency in Urban Brisbane. Characteristics of delinquents are described first. This is followed by a broad epidemiological approach to the study of distributions of delinquents in order to generate research propositions to be tested and to derive categories of offence to be analysed. Theft delinquency is examined using areal centrographic techniques. An ecological analysis is then presented to determine the relationship between spatial order in delinquency rates in areas and the order in variables which describe conditions in the built and social environment in which delinquents reside.
