A Strategy for Tuning the Structure, Morphology, and Magnetic Properties of MnFe2O4/SiO2 Ceramic Nanocomposites via Mono-, Di-, and Trivalent Metal Ion Doping and Annealing

Abstract: This work presents the effect of monovalent (Ag+, Na+), divalent (Ca2+, Cd2+), and trivalent (La3+) metal ion doping and annealing temperature (500, 800, and 1200 °C) on the structure, morphology, and magnetic properties of MnFe2O4/SiO2 ceramic nanocomposites synthesized via sol–gel method. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirms the embedding of undoped and doped MnFe2O4 nanoparticles in the SiO2 matrix at all annealing temperatures. In all cases, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirms the formation of… Show more

“…The influence of doping with various monovalent (Ag + , Na + ), divalent (Ca 2+ , Cd 2+ ), and trivalent (La 3+ ) metallic ions and annealing temperatures (500, 800, 1200 °C) on the physico-chemical properties of MnFe 2 O 4 @SiO 2 ceramic nanocomposites produced by the sol–gel method was discussed by Dippong et al [ 31 ]. Low crystalline MnFe 2 O 4 at low annealing temperatures and well-crystalline MnFe 2 O 4 at high annealing temperatures were noted.…”

“…At 1200 °C, in the case of MnFe 2 O 4 doped with divalent and trivalent metallic ions, three crystalline phases belonging to the SiO 2 matrix were also noted. The structural parameters determined by X-ray diffraction, namely the spherical particles size, the thickness of coating layer, and the powder surface area, as well as the magnetic parameters ( M s , M r , K , H c ), depended on the doping metallic ion and annealing temperature [ 31 ]. By doping, the Ms and K decreased for samples annealed at 800 °C, but increased for samples annealed at 1200 °C, while the M R and H c decreased by doping at 800 and 1200 °C [ 31 ].…”

“…In recent years, spinal-structured metal oxide nanomaterials have attracted tremendous interest as heterogeneous photocatalysts owing to their ability to be activated by solar or visible light irradiation (Derelli et al, 2023;Dippong et al, 2023). Spinel ferrites having the general formula MFe2O4 (M = divalent metals like Fe, Co, Cu, Mn, Ni, Zn, etc.)…”
