A Study of a Microstrip Patch Antenna With a Drilled Through-Holes Array Structure Based on the Line Source Analysis Method

Abstract: A novel periodic photonic crystal structure with through-holes drilled by a 4 × 7 array based on the line source analysis method was proposed in this paper to improve the gain and radiation of the microstrip antenna. The analysis results showed that, with the help of the line source analysis method, this through-hole structure could improve the gain and radiation of the antenna. The proposed through-hole structure was superior to other periodic structures. The sizes of the antenna and the patch used were 46.86… Show more

“…It is frequently constructed simply by mounting or constructing an appropriately dimensioned metal sheet or surface on an insulating dielectric substrate, such as a printed circuit board. The opposite side of the PC board substrate is also cladded and so forms a ground plane, or another conductive surface is added on the other side of the dielectric [7]. The dimensions of the rectangular microstrip patch antenna are shown in Table 1.…”

“…In a communication system, an antenna plays a crucial role in transmitting and receiving information. Microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) are widely applied due to their light weight, small dimensions, low cost, and easy fabrication, as well as planar geometry [1]. However, at higher frequencies, the MPA suffers from low radiation efficiency due to the inherent metallic losses [2].…”
