A Study of Different Types of Air Pollutants on the Efficiency of China’s Hotel Industry

Abstract: This study focuses on visible and invisible air pollutants and their impacts on China’s hotel industry. Overall, visible air pollutants may block the sights and sceneries and worsen the quality of visitors’ sensory experiences, and invisible air pollutants are unlikely to result in the same perceptions and sensations. Hence, different types of air pollutants may have various impacts on the hotel industry’s operational performance. We employed a bootstrapped truncated regression model to investigate whether dif… Show more

“…Air pollution is one of the most common forms of environmental problems especially among the third world countries. In Nigeria, air pollution is a concern because it is hazardous to man and his environment (Geissler et al, 2018;HEI, 2018;Vanguard, 2018;World Health Organisation, 2018;Guo, Wei, Li, 2019). Experts have found that air pollutant (aerosols) can accumulate in the tissues of living organisms and the environment.…”

“…In addition, AQ is receiving increasing attention due to the growing awareness on negative impacts of air pollution on the environment and, specifically, on people's health (EEA, 2019; Gao et al, 2021). Hence, it is recognized that air pollution contributes to increase respiratory diseases (Guo et al, 2019; Tao et al, 2014), and provokes many deaths (World Health Organization, 2020). In some previous research it is argued that air pollution increases the adoption of pro‐environmental behaviors (Guo et al, 2020; Sajjad et al, 2020), although there is a lack of empirical evidence about the impacts of AQ in the tourism context, particularly regarding visitors' behaviors (Eusébio et al, 2022).…”

“…Air quality standards can influence visitor perceptions and experiences in tourist areas and the hotel sector. Visible air pollutants, such as smoke and dust, have an obvious impact on stay quality as poor air quality can obstruct views and degrade sensory inputs [5,6]. However, invisible air pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide, are unlikely to result in similar perceptions and feelings [6].…”
