A Study of LTE-V2X Mode 4 Performances in a Multiapplication Context

Abstract: With the growing importance of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), 3GPP has standardized LTE-V2X (Long Term Evolution -Vehicle-to-everything) in Release 14 to address specifically vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity. This standard introduces a mode 4 in which vehicles allocate radio resources autonomously without cellular infrastructure support for direct vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. However, as LTE-V2X is a recent technology (compared to WAVE and ITS-G5), it is not sufficiently… Show more

“…Variations in the number of vehicles, communication range of a UAV, and packet transmission frequency further impact the average end-to-end (E2E) latency and packet delivery ratio (PDR) [16]. A recent work has demonstrated that the parameters of the communication channel and the data traffic influence the LTE-V2X's performance in a realistic multiapplication environment [17].…”

“…Ghodhbane et al [30] emphasized the standardized technology for cooperative intelligent transport systems and the LTE-V2X mode 4, with particular attention to factors pertaining to traffic load, resource allocation, and Quality of Service (QoS). An analysis in comparison with ITS-G5 was also carried out.…”

“…If the entity is present, there is mode 3. If not, there is mode 4 [24,[36][37][38]. Depending on the mode, which is used for the data transmission, the requirement for the latency is in the range between 20-100 ms [39].…”
