A study of selected features of Shan Tong variety of plantation paulownia and its wood properties

Abstract: A study of selected features of Shan Tong variety of plantation paulownia and its wood properties. The study was conducted on three-year-old and representative paulownia tree of the Shan Tong variety, from a plantation in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, Poland. The three-year-old paulownia tree was 4.2 m high and its diameter at butt level was of 11 cm. The tree provided material for the study from its three-year-old shoot, which was divided into three parts: leaves, branches and the main trunk. According … Show more

“…As reported in the study conducted by Kozakiewicz et al (2020), the environmental and growth conditions of Paulownia vary between different species, such as P. tomentosa, P. fortunei, and P. elongata, which consequentially contribute to the variation in the density of Paulownia wood. The density of Paulownia wood ranges from 220 to 400 kg m ─3 , with an average of approximately 270 kg m ─3 (Akyildiz and Kol Sahin, 2010;Madhoushi and Boskabadi, 2019;Lachowicz and Giedrowicz, 2020a).…”

“…In contrast, cultivation in central and eastern Europe is at a very early stage, and there is no long-term confirmation of its effectiveness and profitability [ 20 , 23 ]. Nonetheless, Paulownia wood is gaining popularity, and several studies on its properties have been undertaken [ 24 , 25 , 26 ].…”

“…Because of the diversity of growth and development conditions of the species and its hybrids, Paulownia exhibits high variability in its wood properties [ 24 , 27 , 28 , 29 ]. For instance, wood density can range from 220 to 350 kgm −3 , although it is usually close to 270 kgm −3 [ 24 , 27 , 28 ].…”
