Background: Benign breast diseases are common pathological entities with which women in her early reproductive age present to OPD with fear of malignancy and significant morbidity. Except for surgery and use of non-selective estrogen receptor blockers, there are no other treatment options, and these have lot side effects. Ormeloxifene a newer drug has shown promising results with minimal side effects and used as the first line of treatment reducing the morbidity of surgery and subjecting the patient to less hormonal side effects.Methods: Diagnosis of benign breast diseases was made by baseline investigation which included measurement of size of fibroadenoma using Vernier caliper and USG, fibroadenosis,ie nodularity measured using Lucknow-Cardiff scale and VAS score was used for pain assessment of mastalgia after which patients will be given the drug and placebo and the response for the drug and its side effects are noted.Results: 61.9% (44) were diagnosed with fibroadenoma, 16.9% (12) with fibroadenosis and 21.1% (15) with mastalgia. Lucknow Cardiff score for fibroadenosis exhibited 50% had smooth breasts with no nodularity at the end of six months, in fibroadenoma group 52% showed decrease in size and 31% showed complete disappearance of the lump and in the mastalgia group 40% had no pain (VAS score of 0). 16(22.5%) of had menstrual abnormality as the major side effect.Conclusions: Ormeloxifene can be used as the first line of treatment in patients with fibroadenosis and mastalgia and used as an alternative to surgery for fibroadenoma.

Benign breast lesions are common in young females and are painless. Fibroadenoma is the commonest lesion among all the breast lesions and occurs in any age.1:To study the age and sex wise distribution of benign breast lesions; 2: To study the clinicopathological changes of benign breast diseases; 3: To study different types of benign breast lesions; 4. To study the histomorphological changes of benign breast lesions with clinical correlation.A prospective study of two years was done to evaluate the different types, patterns of benign breast lesions in females in relation to age, clinical and radiological features.A total of 140 benign breast diseases were studied. Fibroadenoma (76; 54.2%) was the most common lesion noted in younger females (18-24yrs) followed by fibrocystic disease (25; 17.8%) & benign phyllodes (14; 10%).FNAC followed by histopathological examination were the diagnostic criteria used for confirmation of the lesions.Benign breast lesions were common in young females, presented with painless, mobile breast lumps. Mastalgia and nipple discharge were other symptoms.

Background: Study of patterns of benign breast diseases is a challenge due to the variations in occurrence and presentation in the different age groups. Women with benign breast diseases are at a high risk of developing breast cancer. Early presentation and prompt diagnosis is essential to relieve the anxiety of non neoplastic conditions. Analysis of patterns and frequency provide a valuable guideline for the clinical diagnosis of these lesions. Materials and Methods: This study was undertaken in the department of Pathology, GMC, Jammu. The purpose of the study was to analyse the spectrum of benign breast diseases to understand their prevalence and age wise comparison. Data of 70 cases of benign breast diseases during a time span of two years (2017-2019) was obtained retrospectively. All breast tissue samples were processed by the standard procedure and formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections were studied and analysed. Results: Non malignant breast lesions include a variety of inflammatory lesions, benign tumours and tumour like conditions. Fibroadenoma(58.6%) is found to be the commonest followed by Fibrocystic disease in 8(11.4%) cases. Most of the cases of benign breast diseases were in the age group of 21-30years (33) followed by 15 cases in the age group of 31-40years. Conclusion: Benign breast diseases constitute a heterogenous group of disorders which is more frequent than malignant ones and is one of the most important cause of breast problems in females. Histopathological evaluation becomes necessary for such cases and plays an important role in their final diagnosis.
