A Study on the Retrieval of Temperature and Humidity Profiles Based on FY-3D/HIRAS Infrared Hyperspectral Data

Abstract: Satellite infrared hyperspectral instruments can obtain a wealth of atmospheric spectrum information. In order to obtain high-precision atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles, we used the traditional One-Dimensional Variational (1D-Var) retrieval algorithm, combined with the information capacity-weight function coverage method to select the spectrum channel. In addition, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm was introduced to correct the satellite observation data error and compare it with the co… Show more

“…Clear sky samples are judged based on the observation data of five representative infrared channels (810 cm −1 , 830 cm −1 , 850 cm −1 , 870 cm −1 , 890 cm −1 ) in the longwave window area. The selected samples must have a spectral brightness temperature greater than 290 K to ensure that the sample point is definitely a clear sky sample [21,45].…”

“…Using the Reference Forward Model (RMF), Zhong [19] simulated the weight function of atmospheric pollution gas volume mixing ratio in the limb detection mode of a hyperspectral instrument. Meanwhile, Li [20] and Zhang [21] employed information entropy analysis to select channels from the spectrum and employed a one-dimensional variational retrieval method to obtain the atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles from HIRAS observation data. Wang [22], on the other hand, used a weighted function based on various ozone channels and their interfering components in combination with an information entropy method to perform channel selection and estimate ozone profiles using the optimal estimation method.…”

“…Additionally, to validate the accuracy of the initial conditions provided by ERA5, this research employed sounding data from the esteemed University of Wyoming. For over two decades, this dataset has been widely used as a standard true value to verify the accuracy of the reanalysis dataset in global upper-air analysis [39,40]. In this study, sounding data for Dalian station (38.5 • N, 121.5 • E) on 2 June at 00:00 UTC were downloaded from the official database, which includes vertical profiles of height (m), pressure (hPa), temperature ( • C), relative humidity (%), mixing ratio (g/kg), and wind speed (m/s).…”

“…(1) Spectral data apodization HIRAS-II L1 service data are not processed by apodization in order to reduce the s lobe effect in practical service applications; thus, it was necessary to perform apodizat calculations on the spectral radiation data [14]. In this study, we used HIRAS-II obser tions for the full day of 21 December 2021 and used the Hamming apodization funct The spectra before and after apodization are shown in Figure 1 below.…”
