A study on the safety evaluation of buphrenorphine administered through an autoinjector compared with manual injection using haematological and biochemical variables in rats

Abstract: Buprenorphine drug cartridge was made for autoinjector device for use in emergency and critical situations to reduce the morbidity and mortality. Water-filled cartridges were prepared and buprenorphine was injected aseptically in the cartridge, to make 0.05 and 0.10 mg/mL. Rats were injected intraperitoneally, buprenorphine (0.3 and 0.6 mg/kg), repeatedly with the autoinjector and compared with manual injection (7 days and 14 days) using various haematological and biochemical parameters. No significan… Show more

“…Buprenorphine administered through autoinjector was compared with manual injection and found to be safe in rat model ( Sheela et al, 2015 ). The buprenorphine cartridges for analgesic purpose were prepared and safety evaluation and quality control tests were carried out and found to be safe for further research The haematological and biochemical parameters were evaluated after administering buprenorphine for 7 and 14 days and there was no significant difference between the autoinjector and manual injection ( Sheela et al, 2017 ).…”

“…48 Extensive preclinical studies carried out in animal models showed that an amikacin AID and a buprenorphine AID were tolerated, safe and well suited for mass casualty management. 50 A naloxone AID is very safe and effective for the management of opioid overdose. 51 A combination of buprenorphine and naloxone might be better and could be considered.…”
