A Study on the Symmetrical Composition of the Walls in Stonborough Villa

Abstract

Yu ISHIDA and Akira KOYAMA Stonborough Villa was designed by Ludwig Wittgenstein and Paul Engelmann. Records show that Wittgenstein not only designed the Villa but also strictly supervised the construction. Neither spoke of the design theory behind this Architecture. Through the measurement process conducted, this research found inconsistencies between the Main Floor Plans and the constructed building.A) The False Wall in the Breakfast Room Plan design was not constructed.B) The False Wall built in Margarethe's Room is not present in the Plan. This paper aims to clarify the relationship between the use of False Walls and the symmetrical Wall surface of the Doors.
