A supramolecular hydrogel for generation of a benign DNA-hydrogel

Abstract: A DNA-hydrogel, produced using calf-thymus DNA and a 2′,4′,6′-tri(4-pyridyl)pyridine based luminescent supramolecular hydrogel, can stabilize sunray mediated photochemically synthesized bio-compatible, luminous Ag-NPs.

“…For example, as shown in Figure , the synthesis of AuNPs inside the matrix of Au(III)‐absorbed hydrogel is reported through direct reduction, applied as environmentally friendly and sustainable hybrid for catalytic activities . Similar approach is also presented for the stabilization of photochemically synthesized silver nanoparticles by nontoxic hydrogels composed of positively charged protonated 2ʹ,4ʹ,6ʹ‐tri(4‐pyridyl)pyridine supramolecular network and calf thymus DNA, which is negatively charged due to the phosphate backbone . This platform allowed efficient stabilization of Ag NPs photochemically synthesized under the direct exposure of sunlight.…”

“…Gels are soft‐viscoelastic 3D scaffolds materialized through the self‐assembly of molecules by immobilizing high throughput of trapped solvent (both organic and aqueous) via different supramolecular non‐covalent intermolecular interactions like solvo‐phobic, ionic, hydrogen bonding, halogen bonding, aryl moiety based stacking features, van der Waals, etc Low‐molecular‐weight gelators (LMWGs), a special type small molecules having molecular mass of typically less than 3000, are brilliantly potent to immobilize solvents to get chemical constituents‐based semi‐solid 3D gel materials . Literary, LMWGs based gelation process basically offers supramolecular gel materials full of inter‐connected non‐covalent facets .…”
