A systematic approach for effective location of series compensation to increase available transfer capability

Abstract: Suggested network reinforcements to increase Available Transfer Capability of an interconnected power system include series compensation of transmission lines. In this paper a methodology for the identification of the critical transmission lines with respect to voltage stability issues is proposed. The methodology is applied on the CIGRE 33-bus test system.
