A Systematic Survey of Expression and Function of Zebrafish frizzled Genes

Abstract: Wnt signaling is crucial for the regulation of numerous processes in development. Consistent with this, the gene families for both the ligands (Wnts) and receptors (Frizzleds) are very large. Surprisingly, while we have a reasonable understanding of the Wnt ligands likely to mediate specific Wnt-dependent processes, the corresponding receptors usually remain to be elucidated. Taking advantage of the zebrafish model's excellent genomic and genetic properties, we undertook a comprehensive analysis of the express… Show more

“…Expression studies show that fzl1, fzl2, fzl7a, fzl7b , and fzl5 are all expressed in the neuroectoderm during ANE restriction. Functional studies show that Fzl8a, Wnt1, Wnt8 are necessary for ANE restriction and that Dkk1 and sFrp1 are necessary to protect the ANE from downregulation by the ANE restriction mechanism (Hsu et al ., ; Kim et al ., ; Lagutin et al ., ; Lekven et al ., ; Nikaido et al ., ; Shinya et al ., ; Sumanas et al ., ; Tendeng and Houart, ).…”
