“…There was no correlation between the number of joints and the functional outcome in the patients with TMT joints arthrodesis. 33 Pain will never be developed to the lateral TMT joints after isolated medial three TMT joints arthrodesis, and if no structural deformity or severe pain of the lateral TMT is present, the arthrodesis of the lateral TMT joints will not improve the overall curative effect either. However, as an independent unit of the foot, the fourth and fifth TMT joints can never be fused independently.…”

“…[ 23 24 ] Previous studies demonstrated the effectiveness of partial arthrodesis as a salvage operation, allowing preservation of most functions of the affected foot. [ 25 26 ] However, primary arthrodesis is recommended only for cases with severe damage, in which the joint cannot be anatomically reconstructed or the patient has severe pain due to traumatic arthritis. [ 27 ] Some studies have also reported that joint arthrodesis surgery can be used as not only a salvage operation, with Lisfranc fusion able to reduce pain and increase joint stability with an even better long-term therapeutic effect than ORIF.…”

“…Fixation selection is surgeon dependent. There have been numerous fixation combinations described for TMT joint arthrodesis to include lag screws, static screws, neutralization plates, compression plates, as well as staples [28]. Even though the cancellous plug can be press fit into position the authors recommend low profile plates with or without locking options.…”
