“…Bioarchaeological studies often make use of the crown formation charts for European and southern Africans in Reid and coworkers previous work (Holt et al, ; Primeau, Arge, Boyer, & Lynnerup, ; Reid and Dean, ). Given that most LEH studies in bioarchaeology focus on anterior teeth, this study confirms the accuracy of those charts, as the use of southern African initiation times for anterior teeth had little effect on the crown completion times given in Reid and Dean ().…”

“…Through the use of a large sample size (274 teeth from 127 Roman subadults), they concluded that enamel formation patterns are more highly impacted according to the severity of the cause of stress, and that there is no minimum requirement of stress level for enamel to be effected (Fitzgerald & Saunders, 2005). Multiple papers have since been published on this topic, all conclusively stating that stress impacts enamel structures, significantly increases CFTs, and reduces the reliability of DSR calculations (Reid & Dean, 2006;Holt et al, 2012;Birch & Dean, 2014;Primeau et al, 2015). As a result of these studies, we can reliably say that nonaccessory enamel grows differentially in individuals presenting evidence of stress.…”
