A Tree-Planting Vehicle for Promoting the Sustainable Development of Desert Greening

Abstract: Preventing land desertification is one of the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, which can effectively promote the sustainable development of desert greening. Currently, tree plantation is the most effective way to achieve this goal. However, the existing tree-plantation activities have some imperfections, including low efficiency, labor-intensiveness, challenging environments, and the low survival rate of saplings. Therefore, to contribute to the sustainable development of desert greening… Show more

“…For oasis cities, areas with high urbanization lead to population concentration, rising population density, and accelerated natural resource utilization. Therefore, limiting the rise of population size in oasis cities results from considerations based on food security, ecological protection, and other relevant factors [86]. Consequently, it is necessary to determine the direction and scale of urban development in the near and distant future.…”

“…Firstly, as previously stated, agricultural modernization is closely related to the sustainable development of oasis urban resources. Oasis agriculture represents a distinctive form of agricultural development in oasis cities [86]. Traditional oasis agriculture is distinguished by high yields of single-season crops, high fertilizer application and irrigation, and an excessive demand for water resources, which has led to a soil-water imbalance [87].…”

“…Since its introduction by Zwicky ( 140 ), morphological charts have been used in a variety of research areas, including Sustainable Design ( 141 ), Human Factors Design ( 142 ), Conceptual Design ( 143 ), Product-Service System design ( 144 ). In addition, the use of morphological charts in combination with other methods [e.g., QFD ( 145 ), ANP ( 146 ), TRIZ ( 147 , 148 ) and Fuzzy evaluation ( 135 )] into a hybrid framework is also a popular research paradigm. However, the combination of methods included in this study is different from existing studies, especially the use of morphological charts for the design of assistive devices for the older adults is limited.…”

“…Because of their reputation as effective pioneer species in the restoration of vegetation, these are commonly planted within the Northwest China's desert regions (Gao et al, 2014; Lai et al, 2016). Asexually reproducing and spreading its thin roots toward the soil's surface, H. mongolicum forms dense clumps (Lu et al, 2022; Zhou et al, 2020). H. scoparium is a shrub grown with cuttings that is always deep root system (Xie et al, 2017; Zhang, Niu, et al, 2022; Zhang, Tian, et al, 2022).…”
