Niniejszy artykuł koncentruje się na przedstawieniu definicji i wskazaniu zasadniczych różnic między istniejącymi w naukowych opracowaniach określeniami prawosławna teologia polityczna oraz politologia prawosławna. Oba charakteryzują subdyscypliny naukowe, w których możemy poszukiwać odpowiedzi na pytanie o relacje Cerkwi ze społeczeństwem, stosunek do modeli politycznych oraz wydarzeń o charakterze globalnym, w tym do wojen i konfliktów politycznych. Systematyzacja pojęć pozwala na próbę przedstawienia właściwego obszaru i metodologii badań. Wnioski skupiają się wokół postulatów precyzji terminologicznej i wyznaczenia właściwego obszaru badawczego, co pozwoli na przyjęcie odpowiedniej metodologii analizy i rozwiązywania problemów w relacji Cerkwi ze światem społeczno-politycznym. Prawidłowa metodologia pozwoli zaś na dalszą drogę poszukiwania odpowiedzi i argumentów w dyskusjach dotyczących kwestii ogólnospołecznych, politycznych lub światopoglądowych.
