A Unifying Framework for Resilience Analysis

Abstract

A unifying framework in defining and measuring resilience has been an intense research topic in recent years. It is proposed that resilience could be represented by a set of functions comprising the intrinsic capacities of a system, the effectiveness of recovery, and the extrinsic random shock process. Through this perspective, the key constituents in achieving resilience are identified as reliability, robustness, recovery, and reconfigurability. This naturally leads to a new resilience framework with multiple dimensions and related measures. It is then shown that these associated measures could explicitly capture the trade‐off between various design parameters, resource allocations, and performance requirements.
