A Versatile Diquinane from Fulvene as a Building Block in Natural Product Synthesis II. A Facile Synthesis of Iridoids 10‐Deoxygeniposide, Mussaenoside, and 8‐epi‐Loganin
The synthesis of cyclopentanoid natural products, iridoid monoterpenes and prostaglandins, was achieved from a common intermediate 2, which was obtained from 1 via photochemical rearrangement.

A formal total synthesis of the iridoid monoterpene (±)-dimethyl secologanoside (6) is described. The Norrish I type fragmentation of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptannone 9 is the key step.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
